Mercari is a Japanese-based eCommerce company with the Mercari marketplace app as its main product. The app connects millions of people who can buy and sell almost anything from their smartphones. It is well-known for its user-friendliness and unique shipping system. Users can ship the products anonymously from local stores by abiding by the Yamato Transport and Japan Post agreements.
Founded by Shintaro Yamada in 2013, our company was earlier named Kouzoh, Inc. Shintaro first launched the Mercari app for iOS and Android devices in July 2013. Within just a year of its launch, the app received over 1 million individual listings, which was overwhelming.
In 2014, we put a foot forward in the United States to launch a marketplace app. In September of the same year, we launched the app, and in six years, it was downloaded over 40 million times in the US. Also, it was ranked number 3 on the US App Store rankings. It currently has over 50 million downloads and 350,000 new listings daily.
